Envoy of the Secretary-General on South-South Cooperation and Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation Mr. Jorge Chediek expressed the readiness of the UNOSSC “to scale up the work with the Regional Hub of Civil Service in Astana with a view toward increasing capacities of the Hub to address the needs of countries in the region and beyond” during the conference of Regional Hub of Civil Service in Astana. Mr. Chediek stressed that the addressing new global, regional and national development challenges is linked directly to the quality of the civil service. In this regard, the experience exchange based on South-South and triangular cooperation would bring significant results towards the improvement of the civil service, and the work of the Astana Regional Hub was acknowledged as a successful example of promoting the partnerships.
Within the framework of the conference, the letters of cooperation between the UNOSSC and the Astana Regional Hub were exchanged.
Established by 25 participating countries and 5 international organizations, the Regional Hub of Civil Service in Astana is an example of effective partnership and networking platform with flexible and demand-driven agenda. The Hub’s work prioritises horizontal knowledge sharing, based on mutual respect and learning, among participating countries (currently 36 countries), appreciating, at the same time, their unique contexts.
